Mac’s Speed Shop will add a Fort Mill restaurant in the second quarter of 2022.
The popular barbecue joint is under contract to purchase 3-plus acres off Exit 85 on S.C. Highway 160 in Fort Mill, says Shang Skipper, president of Mac’s Hospitality Group.
“This is a location we think is a little underserved for what we do at Mac’s. We think it will do well,” he says.
Plans call for two restaurants from Mac’s Hospitality Group on that site. Both will be between 4,000 and 5,000 square feet. A new concept that will feature live music is under development, Skipper says.
In total, he expects to invest north of $4 million into that project, which is about a mile from the Baxter mixed-use development.
Skipper says Mac’s is considering additional growth in the Carolinas, with four deals in progress.
He says adding as many as four restaurants a year is possible over the next several years.
“We believe there’s a lot of growth opportunity for us for the Mac’s brand,” he says. “We’re going to take it one location at a time.”
In total, Mac’s Hospitality Group has invested more than $20 million into its restaurant portfolio over the last 16 years. It now operates eight locations of Mac’s Speed Shop in the Carolinas, as well as Southbound, The Music Yard and Backstage Lounge.
Skipper says there are also plans for a scaled-down version of Southbound in Greensboro. That 3,600-square-foot restaurant will be located next to the Mac’s on Battleground Avenue.
“We’re very excited about Southbound. We think there’s a ton of potential for that brand,” he says.
